Fiber Distributed Antenna System (FDAS)
The Andrew ION™ Intelligent Optical Network (formerly MMR and Britecell® products) provides an optimized, easy-to-scale, fiber-based distributed solution for indoor and outdoor applications. Homogeneous coverage and sufficient capacity can be provided from car park through stairwell to office or exhibition hall with maximum QoS (quality of service) and GoS (grade of service).
Wireless operators may choose from a wide variety of power levels and other features to maximize coverage and quality while optimizing cost. For example, in a high rise building, capacity and coverage may be shaped by creating a distribution system that allows each floor to share the capacity of other floors with a low power ION-B (formerly Britecell), Cell-Max™ indoor antennas, and RADIAX® radiating feeder cable.
All units interface to A.I.M.O.S., Andrew's Integrated Network Operating System (OMC).

As shown here, indoor confined horizontal spaces may be covered with an ION-B. This dedicated, self-contained, low power transport system with fiber backhaul is quick and easy to install where spot coverage or additional capacity is needed. Remote dc power is often deployed with this type of system to minimize installation costs and provide backup in case of power outages.
ION-M (formerly MMR) is ideal for more difficult environments. For example, in outdoor areas where zoning is difficult, ION units may be deployed almost anywhere and are easily hidden in street furniture, ducts, lamp poles, trash cans, street signs, street lights, or building walls.
